Bayside parks that contain seniors exercise equipment

More ways for older adults to stay active

We’ve installed new exercise equipment featuring a range of outdoor equipment for gentle exercise, designed for older people to help improve balance, strength, functional movement, joint range of motion and mobility. Information boards have been installed to explain the correct use of each item and encourage safe exercising.

These areas have been purposefully positioned close to other playgrounds to take advantage of existing infrastructure such as drinking fountains and seats, and to encourage community connections.

Exercise equipment for older adults are available at the following parks in Bayside:

  • Thomas Street Playground, 164 Thomas Street, Hampton
  • Tibrockney St Reserve, Highett
  • Landcox Park, Mavis Avenue Brighton East
  • Illaroo Reserve, Wells Rd Beaumaris
  • Wilson Recreation Reserve, Brighton (enter from Middle Cres)
  • Beach Park Sandringham Gardens

Wilson Recreation Reserve in Brighton was the final site to be installed as part of our older adult exercise equipment upgrade. As part of our older adult exercise equipment program, we’ve also installed a range of new outdoor equipment at Thomas Street Playground in Hampton, Tibrockney Street Park in Highett, Landcox Park in Brighton East and Illaroo Reserve in Beaumaris, all designed to help the older members of our community stay active.

This is an exciting step towards increasing intergenerational inclusivity in our playgrounds and outdoor spaces, while also providing more health and recreational opportunities for older members of our community.

See the new equipment at Thomas Street Playground, IIllaroo Reserve, Tibrockney Street Park and Wilson Recreation Reserve below.

The Seniors' Exercise Park is located in the north eastern area of the reserve, accessible by an asphalt path (to the left of the toilet block looking from Thomas Street).

The Seniors' Exercise Park features a range of outdoor equipment for gentle exercise, designed for older people to help improve balance, strength, functional movement, joint range of motion and mobility. Information boards explain the correct use and encourage safe exercising.

The outdoor equipment is designed for passive recreation and is not for commercial use.

You can also download these handy flyers to take a hard copy with you to the park to show you how to use the equipment:
